Artist Statement

Having a background in Theatre Arts, Dance, Medicine and Midwifery, there is a fascination with the human form. I’ve spent many years attending open drawing sessions and drawing the outside of the form. I now find it intriguing to find the emotional response to the inside by learning and integrating new techniques.

Monotypes simplify the figure into form, color, and line to produce clarity.  How form moves and flows can be a challenge in 2 dimensional arts.

Learning the process of etching has brought science into my thought.  Etching is a long process, sometimes frustrating but always compelling by adding more lines, more aquatints, and more burnishing  it can making etching go on and on.

Gravure is a new and different process that takes drawing to a new level.

The challenge for next year and perhaps for years to come will be to combine the skills and techniques of theses individual processes by pushing the techniques to speak to the fluidity of the form.
